Comrade Manik Biswas

COMRADE Manik Biswas, CPI(M) Tripura state committee member, secretary of Udaipur sub-divisional committee and a dedicated leader of peasant and agricultural workers died on November 14, 2022 at GBP Cancer Hospital, Agartala. He was 71 and unmarried.

Comrade Manik Biswas was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Since then he was under regular treatment.  He discharged his responsibilities as Udaipur SDC secretary in right earnest till the moment of his death, amidst extremely adverse situation in the sub-division particularly from March 2018. 

Hailing from a peasant family in Mirza, a village in Udaipur, Comrade Manik Biswas came in touch with the CPI(M) through the youth movement in the 1960s. He became a Party member in 1970. He made excellent contributions in building Party organisation as well as organising the kisans and agricultural workers in Udaipur sub-division. In 1994, he was elected as vice chairman of Matabari panchayat samiti. In 2015, he was elected as secretary of CPI(M) Udaipur sub-divisional committee and in 2017 he was elected state committee member of the Party. He was a member of the all India council of AIAWU since its formation in 1980 and a member of state executive committee of the organisation.

CPI(M) Tripura state secretariat in a statement, said he was a dedicated leader with strong commitment to his ideals. Remembering his invaluable contribution to the Party and the kisan and agricultural workers movement, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Manik Sarkar, said in a condolence message, that he hopes the gap that has been created with his demise would be filled in by the collective endeavours of the leadership of the Udaipur sub-division.
