Telangana: British Then and BJP Now

Kambhampati Sarma

A LARGE road show WAS  organised by the Hanumakonda district  committee of the CPI(M) on July 26.  Later addressing the public meeting, CPI(M) general secretary, Sitaram Yechury said that on the occasion of 75 years of independence, the central government is celebrating Amrit Utsav. He expressed unhappiness that even after 75 years people could not get education, healthcare, houses and employment in the country. PM Modi has given a call to hoist the national flag on every house on this occasion. But during his rule what progress had been achieved to celebrate, he questioned the central government.  During British rule, Gandhiji fought against the taxes imposed on salt and food items and got them abolished. After 75 years, the Modi government imposed GST on food and daily needs, he said.

The public meeting was presided by district secretary, Chakrapani. CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member, B V Raghavulu, state secretary Tammineni and other leaders also participated in this meeting.

Sitaram Yechury called on people to strengthen the fight against BJP policies. Modi government is not filling more than 10 lakh of government posts. When issues of people come to the fore, they are being undermined by raising religious passions. During the rule of the Modi government, 11 lakh crore rupees of loans of big corporates have been written off and have been provided many concessions. The wealth of the country is being handed over to his friends, Ambani and Adani who are looting the country. By bringing religious animosities, they are dividing people. He called on the people to fight against the Modi policies and strengthen people’s struggles against such policies.

The wealth and resources of the country belong to everybody and not to corporates, he asserted. He called on people, and to build a better India. People should agitate unitedly. The foundations of the constitution are under attack by the BJP government and he called on people to come to save the country, constitution, democracy, federal spirit and economic independence.

B V Raghavulu reminded the meeting participants that KCR promised to build ‘golden Telangana’. But the poor are only asking for land, and house sites and the government is not ready to give it to them. Why should there be attacks, cases and arrests on the poor who have no shelter? State secretary, T Veerabhadram said that people are not asking for ‘golden Telangana’ but ‘living Telangana’. Only if you struggle problems get solved. In the state, tribals are fighting for podu lands, Poor for house sites. Workers are fighting for minimum wages, and land losers for compensation. How far is it right to raze the hutments of the poor by the police? If people are united then only problems get solved. Where the red flag rule is, there both are available free to the people. He wanted red flag rule in India too. For the future of their children and for the future of the state, people should agitate, he said. In this programme,  CPI(M) Central Committee Member, Ch Seetharamulu, Nagiah, B Venkat, state leaders  S Veeriah, P Sudarshan, J Raangareddy, Mallulaxmi, G Ramulu, S Vasudevareddy and others participated.
