SKM Visits Lakhimpur Kheri, Victims' Families Met

ON May 5, 2022, a large delegation of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) once again visited Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh, and met the families of the victims of the ghastly massacre and also of the farmers who have been unjustly arrested for murder charges.

The SKM visit took place in the background of the recent re-arrest of Ashish Mishra Teni after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail. Right from the beginning, the SKM has been in regular touch with the affected families and has given them all help, including legal aid in the Supreme Court.

The SKM delegation met the district magistrate, the district superintendent of police and other officials, and raised the following demands:

1. Removal of Ajay Mishra Teni from the union cabinet and arrest on the charge of conspiracy in killing the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri.

2. Withdrawal of murder charges and all cases on farmers.

3. Compensation to all those injured in the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre.

4. Full security to the witnesses in the case, and giving them licenses to carry firearms for their protection.

The DM and the SP assured the SKM delegation that the district administration would immediately implement all the issues that lay in its purview.

The SKM reiterates that it will continue to fully support the families of the victims and of the farmers arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri case in all ways.

The SKM delegation was led by Rakesh Tikait, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Yudhvir Singh, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Dr Ashok Dhawale, Surjit Phul, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Gurmit Singh Mehma, Harpal Singh Sangha, Gurbax Singh Barnala, Balwant Behramke, Gurinder Singh Bhangu, Sukhpal Singh Daffer, Bharat Singh, Deepak Lamba, Abhimanyu Kohar, Seva Singh Arya and several local leaders of the SKM in Lakhimpur Kheri, and  Shahjahanpur.
