AP: Red Books Day Observed Enthusiastically

RED books day was observed enthusiastically by the CPI(M) leaders, cadres and followers throughout Andhra Pradesh.  Prajasakti and Visalandhra publishing houses jointly conducted a meeting in Vijayawada at the Marx Engels statue square. Left intellectuals and sympathizers took part in the programmes at many places. CPI(M) district committee offices, mass organisations’ offices and Prajasakti book shops and various others totaling to 117 were decorated with flex banners propagating Marxist literature, with photos and popular quotations of great leaders.

The campaign was launched on February 12 with a meeting addressed by BV Raghavulu, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and V Srinivasa Rao, CPI(M) AP state secretary. Raghavulu explained about the Red books day being observed globally by the Left publications and progressive forces. He appealed the audience to study the basics of Marxism time and again to equip themselves with the theoretical knowledge required to interpret the developments happening around them. Srinivasa Rao said that reading books should be an integral part in the life of a communist. Audio book of Communist Manifesto was released by BV Raghavulu at Vijayawada on February 15. The campaign geared up and another online meeting was conducted jointly by the CPI(M) state committees of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which was presided over by P Madhu, Central Committee member and addressed by Sitaram Yechury, Party general secretary. Sitaram explained the national and international developments from the Marxist perspective. He said that reading should be a continuous activity for any individual, more so for a communist. T Veerabhadram, CPI(M) Telangana state secretary released an audio book of Principles of Communism.

After a preliminary review, it was found that 8,530 members of 1,530 units of CPI(M) and 7,200 intellectuals and sympathizers participated on the 21st programme of reading Communist Manifesto/ Principles of Communism or other book throughout Andhra Pradesh. The slogan ‘Let us read and change the society’ was received well. A meeting was conducted by Prajasakti and Visalandhra publishing houses jointly at the Marx Engels statue square at Vijayawada. S Venkata Rao and Gaddam Koteswara Rao presided over it and P Madhu and K Ramakrishna, CPI state secretary were the main speakers.
