Bihar: Protest over price rise, Campaign against Demolition Drive
Kumar Nishant
THERE is no procurement at MSP in Bihar, and it has been a constant demand of farmers and farmer organisations. Areas in districts like Western Champaran, Eastern Champaran, Gopalganj and several other districts of north Bihar are flooded. Before this, people had to suffer due to the Yaas cyclone. Even the situation of capital Patna is not good and it gets inundated even with little rain. CPI(M) leaders visited flood-affected areas and found that disaster management by the government is totally missing. People need to be rescued, relocated and compensated by the government.
Recently those who cleared STET exams conducted by the state protested on the streets of Patna and the teachers were chased away by Nitish Kumar's police. CPI(M) had supported the aspirants and had urged the state government to take immediate action. In the name of smart city, the government is removing hutments of poor living on the roadside and landless labourers. In Patna, near the New Bypass Road, people from areas like Phulwari Sharif, Ramjichal, Damlia, ChulhaiChal, Amaroura, MalaiPakdi More, Ruppur Nahar, Digha Thana and other areas were organised by CPI(M) workers, and a protest was staged outside the Patna secretariat. A list was also handed over to the administration. The administration had moved to demolish the residences, but CPI(M) leaders Manoj Kumar Chandrvanshi and others reached there and stopped the demolition.
CAMPAIGN TO DEMAND AN ANSWER FROM BIHAR GOVERNMENT BETWEEN JUNE 14-30
The CPI(M) state unit called for a campaign to demand answers from the state government. The campaign started on June 14, the martyrdom day of Comrade Ajit Sarkar, and continued till June 30. Through this campaign issues related to health, employment, education, land rights, crime, corruption, farmers issues and local issues were raised. Programmes were held in villages, panchayats, blocks and districts.
On June 23, a protest was held in front of the secretariat in Samastipur, against the murder attempt on MLA Ajay Kumar.
FORTNIGHT AGAINST PRICE RISE FROM JUNE 16-30
CPI(M) and other Left parties observed a fortnight of protest against price rise between June 16-30, and marches were held by all district offices. PM Modi's effigy was also burnt.
In Patna, Left party members marched from Buddha Smriti Park near Patna Junction, led by Awadhesh Kumar, Arun Mishra, Ganesh Shankar Singh, Manoj Kumar Chandrvanshi, and other leaders of CPI(ML) and CPI. Near Dakbunglow Crossing, the march was stopped, and there was heavy barricading. Protesters broke the barricades and marched ahead. They wanted to hand over a demand letter at the secretariat. Ganesh Shankar Singh, Manoj Chandrvanshi, and others were also detained, but the march continued. The district administration finally heard the demands, and the march got converted into a meeting. Arun Kumar Mishra attacked the government over price rise and dislodging the poor in the name of smart cities and other issues. He also attacked Nitish Kumar and congratulated the people of Bihar and the communist parties for the successful programme.
