A BUST of Comrade Jagdish Chandra Basu was installed on April 11, 2021 in Meghauna panchayat in Khagaria.
Comrade Jagdish was murdered, the last year-2020 on April 11, during the lockdown. The reason for murdering Comrade Basu was that he was fighting against the culprits of the region, these culprits were involved in killing a principal of Chikni Primary School on August 15, 2019. Comrade Jagdish Chandra was relentlessly fighting for ensuring that the culprits are caught. This gang was involved in multiple murders. Vinod Singh who was the son of the village sarpanch was also murdered some 22 months before Comrade Basu was killed.
The police did not act on time and this generated more confidence in this gang who carried out these murders without fear of getting caught.
Comrade Jagdish Chandra Basu was linked with the Party since his student days. His father Comrade Luxmi Narayan Yadav was a member of the district committee of Khagaria and was instrumental in organising the marginalised sections of the people in the Alauli region. Comrade Jagdish, since 1987 was active in the Party and led many movements for land rights for the poor in Meghona panchayat. His contribution in building struggles on land rights was immensely recognised. He was also elected president of the panchayat for a long time and later also became a member of the zila parishad. He was also known by the name- “Munna Mukhiya”. His death was a big loss to the party in the region and the state.
A public meeting was organised which was attended by Hannan Mollah, Polit Bureau Member of the CPI(M), Awdesh Kumar, state secretary of the Party, Sarvodaya Sharma, Rajendra Prasad Singh and Ajay Kumar, member of the state secretariat. Many district and local leaders along with the common people of the region participated in this meeting. The meeting was presided over by Sanjay Kumar, district secretary of CPI(M).
Hannan Mollah, after garlanding the bust of the martyred comrade, said that the task of fighting the feudal-criminal nexus will continue and all of us will have to carry forward this struggle for a better and humane society. He also spoke about the anti-farmer policies of the central government and said that dozens of kisans have laid down their lives in the ongoing struggle at the Delhi borders. In a cold-blooded murder in Bhagalpur, the police killed one person on March 29 who was dragged by a scarf to the police station. Later he succumbed to the police atrocities, his name was Sanjay Kumar, he was a clerk in the irrigation department and had come to his village for Holi holidays.
