IN a confronting approach, Arif Mohammad Khan, Governor of Kerala has rejected the proposal of state cabinet to convene a special session of legislative assembly which was scheduled on December 23 in order to discuss the impact of controversial agriculture laws passed by the centre. The governor has disagreed to convene the house on the ground that there are no circumstances to do so. The governor had sought an explanation: what is the need for an emergency session? The government clarified that the Agri Laws have a nationwide impact and the farmers in the state expressed their anguish.
One hour-long discussion was scheduled on December 23 with a limited agenda of placing of a resolution by the chief minister and party leaders’ response over it. The resolution was meant to express the people’s solidarity to the farmers who launched a protest at the borders of Delhi.
P Sreeramakrishnan, Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly has responded that the decision of governor is unnatural and unbelievable.
Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan said the governor's action is unconstitutional and he has no right to reject the proposal of a government which enjoys a clear majority.
