Comrade K Thangavel
CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state secretariat member and former MLA, Comrade K Thangavel passed away on September 13, 2020. Comrade K Thangavel got admitted to a hospital for coronavirus treatment in Coimbatore on August 30 and since then he could not come out of his illness. CPI(M) expresses its deep sorrow and condoles the death of Comrade K Thangavel. He was aged 68 years and is survived by his wife and daughters.
Comrade Thangavel was born in a family with a humble background; he worked as a labourer in a hosiery company. He joined the Party and fought for the rights of hosiery workers and conducted various struggles for their cause.
He worked as general secretary of the Coimbatore district workers union and later as president of the union affiliated to CITU. While leading the union, he had won many rights for the hosiery workers.
He was elected to the state secretariat of the Party and served for 25 years. He was also in charge of various districts of the Party and was elected to the Tiruppur South assembly constituency for the period 2011-16.
As an elected legislator, he served for the development of Tiruppur district and carried out various activities for the welfare of the people, particularly the workers, and advocated their cause in the assembly.
The demise of Comrade K Thangavel is a great loss to the CPI(M), Left movement and working class, especially to the workers in the western zone of the state.
The CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee pays its homage to the bereaved family, relatives and comrades over the demise of the beloved leader. For three days, the red flag of the Party flew half mast in all the units in the state.
