TN: Senior Leader of the Party Com D Lakshmanan Passes Away
THE CPI(M) Tamil Nadu state committee expresses its deep sorrow on the passing away of one of the senior leaders of the Party in Tamil Nadu Com D Lakshmanan, at the age of 84, due to the coronavirus on August 24 night at a hospital in Chennai.
The CPI(M) Tamilnadu state committee conveys its deepest condolences over the demise of D Lakshmanan.
Born in a poor family Comrade DL joined the government service and worked in the veterinary department.
He organised the government employees in the veterinary department in the union and joined hands with Comrade M R Appan in various struggles for the rights of the government employees. He worked day and night to organise the government employees in the union throughout the state.
During this period, he was attracted to the CPI(M) and after joining the Party, he resigned from the government service to work as full timer of the Party. In 1981, an organising committee was formed for Chingleput district, which was hitherto attached to the Chennai district committee of the Party he was elected as organising secretary of the Party in the district. In the same period, he was elected to the state committee of the Party and in the year 1985, he was elected to the state secretariat of the Party.
He had contributed various articles to the Party daily Theekkathir. He was also the editor of the Marxist monthly magazine and had written so many articles which are ideological in nature.
He was instrumental in organising the Tamil Nadu Minority Peoples Welfare Committee. He also took keen interest in organising the TARADAC to look after the welfare of the differently abled persons in this state. He was one of the state office bearers of this organisation. He held various positions in different organisations including the president of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association for a brief period.
He was humble and had a close relationship with comrades throughout the state. The death of Comrade D Lakshman is a great loss to the Party. The Party pays its sincere homage to the departed leader .The CPI(M) conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
