CPI(M) Condoles Passing Away of Le Kha Phieu

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep sorrow on the passing away of former general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Le Kha Phieu, at the age of 89. Le Kha Phieu was born on December 27, 1931 in Thanh Hóa Province’s Dong Son district and served in senior positions in the army and the Party. He became a member of the Party Central Committee in 1991 and was the general secretary of the Party from December 1997 to April 2001.

Com Phieu was an outstanding leader of the older generation of the CPV and Vietnam. Under his leadership, the Vietnamese people, the army, and the Communist Party made great strides in the country’s renewal, industrialisation and modernisation, moving ahead in the path of construction of socialism. Com Phieu diligently served the country and the Party through the wars and nation-building efforts in peacetime and won the affection of people through his simple lifestyle, regularly being in touch with them.

The CPI(M) dips its banner in memory of the departed leader and expresses its condolences to the CPV, his family members and the people of Vietnam in these most difficult times. Pledging to carry on the path to realise the ideals of Marxism-Leninism through our collective efforts, we pay our homage to Com Phieu.
