From the morning, hundreds of such roadside sit-in took place. The preamble of the constitution was read out in unison as oath. In districts, from a hundred to three hundred sit-ins took place. In some places it was organised at ward level, or village panchayat level. Thousands of people took part in these demonstrations. The sit in was addressed by leaders of the Left and other parties. Biman Basu took part in Entally area of Kolkata, Surjya Mishra in Dhakuria, Mohammad Salim in Beliaghata. The resolve to fight tooth and nail against divisive policies of Modi government and resisting CAA-NPR-NRC was reiterated. Songs and poems of resistance reverberated in these gatherings.
On the martyrdom day of Gandhiji, Left parties and allies organised a rally from Ramlila Maidan to Beleghata Gandhi Bhawan. This was the place where Gandhiji spent his days during partition and fratricidal riots.
