TELANGANA: Comrade Sundarayya’s Death Anniversary Observed

Kambhampati Sarma

ON May 19, the 34th death anniversary of Comrade P Sundarayya was observed in Sundarayya Vignana Kendram (SVK) in Baghlingampalli  and also at the new Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Gachibowli. Glowing tributes were paid and the statue of Sundarayya was garlanded by Prof Ram Puniyani from IIT Mumbai and by many others present at the venue.

Later, he spoke on the subject “defence of democracy and immediate duty today”. He said that Sundarayya was one of the founders and builders of communist movement in India. The country will develop only when equality is achieved in political, social and economic fields. Freedom, fraternity, and equality are foundations of democracy, but BJP is subverting it. He expressed concern over the falling democratic values in the last five years. Judiciary, CBI, RBI, and election commission, the constitutional bodies have autonomous existence and they have been destroyed by BJP government .This is violation of constitution of India.

In government, the ministers also have power along with PM. But Prime Minister Modi has been taking decisions in all departments of government and is ruling as one-man government. Putting aside the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitely and taking decision on demonetisation is proof of that. The RSS and organisations of ‘sangh parivar’ are conspiring to paint Hindu chauvinism as nationalism. In the name of construction of Ram temple, love jihad, protection of cows, ‘ghar wapasi’ and other issues, attacks are made on the minority communities in the country. He crticised, if RSS opinions are opposed people are being branded as “anti-nationals”. Patronising caste and lack of value for labour in Hindu traditions should be opposed. He reminded that Hindu and Muslim kings employed both Hindu and Muslims in the army. Wars were fought for wealth and power. But the ‘sangh parivar’ is spreading lies that wars were fought by Muslims to subjugate Hindus and convert them to Muslims.

Mahatma Gandhi wanted to consolidate ‘the equality of Bhagat Singh and fraternity of Ambedkar’. The RSS, did not participate in freedom struggle, rather supported the British. He said that the BJP grew its strength with violence. He said that all religions should be respected and superstition should be opposed. He gave a call that by building organised movements, the constitutional values should be defended. People’s future should improve, and he called on to fight till all get equality and all get social justice.

B V Raghavulu, Polit Bureau member of CPI(M) said that democracy is in danger, and democratic institutions have been destroyed  in last five years and RSS and BJP are responsible  for this. Even if a secular government is formed on 23rd, fight for democracy should go on. The society has been vitiated. If people are killed in the name of cow protection, how can India become a power like USA and China? He called on everybody that they should take oath to fight religious fanaticism. The SVK secretary, T Veerabhadram, said that because of his Marxist outlook, Comrade Sundarayya lived a simple life. Communists are those who can think for future generations and humanity.

SVK trust is doing many activities, said SVK managing trust chairman, Vinay Kumar. Apart from doing social service related activities, and work in theoretical areas, it is making effort in film school and software. Professor Ram Puniyani was honoured by Veerabhadram and B V Raghavulu.

B V Raghavulu criticised that for destruction of environment capitalism is only responsible, and for profit it will go to any extent.   In Hyderabad Gachibowli Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, he inaugurated the website of SVK on May 19. SVK trust board secretary, Tammineni switched on the 250 kilo watt, solar electricity centre. He reminded that Sundarayya collected 40,000 books for the library. He had a hearty connection with the libraries. He expressed that capitalism will inevitably collapse and give way to more humane society.

Tammineni  Veerabhadram said that effort is being made to end the politics of money. Communists will be in the forefront for modernity. SVK trust board chairman Nandyala Narasimhareddy, free software general secretary, Kiran Chandra also spoke on the occasion.
