Left Unleashes Electoral Campaign in Telangana

Kambhampati Sarma

TELANGANA state is having 17 parliamentary seats, out of which 4 seats namely Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahbubabad and Bhonagiri will be jointly contested by CPI (M) and CPI. CPI(M) is contesting Khammam and Nalgonda, CPI is contesting Bhonagiri and Mahbubabad.

CPI(M) has officially announced the candidature of Mallu Laxmi from Nalgonda constituency and B Venkat from Khammam constituency. Kalluri Venkateswarlu and Goda Sreeramulu are contesting from Mahbubabad and Bhonagiri as CPI candidates.

Speaking in the public meeting on the occasion of filing nomination of B Venkat, in the pavilion grounds in Khammam, Sitaram Yechury said that the present Lok Sabha elections are quite significant for the country, and defeating the BJP is a historical  necessity. In last five years the economic situation has deteriorated and the suicides of the farmers in debt  has increased .The government is saying that there is no money for the waiver of farmer debts, but it has abolished the debts of  Rs 3.5 lakh crore for the   corporate  in last five years. Exploitation has increased and unemployment is highest in last 50 years.  Last year, 3 crore people have become unemployed. The Balakot strikes are being politically  used by Modi government. In the Modi government of 5 years, scams, exploitation and assaults only happened but no basic needs of the people have been met. With the religious politics of Modi the clashes have increased and attacks on Muslims and dalits have increased. Using pressure, the CBI, judicial system, and even election commission, have been used for their advantage. If we cannot dislodge the Modi government this time we cannot protect the democratic rights. He called on the people to elect B Venkat, candidate coming from peoples struggles with a large majority.

B Venkat who is contesting from Khammam as Lok Sabha candidate, was attracted to left ideology from the student days .He joined the CPI(M) in 1985 and worked as president of SFI. He is a secretariat member of the Party. He worked in the struggles of students, land distribution, agricultural workers and was also in jail while leading these struggles.

Mallu Laxmi is daughter–in law of legendary Mallu Swarajyam and Mallu Venkata Narasimha Reddy who participated in Telangana armed struggle during 1946-51. She became member of CPI(M) in 2006 and was elected as village sarpanch of Rayanigudem, Suryapet Mandal unanimously. She became state committee member in 2017. She participated in a number of struggles of women, social and other causes and faced repression.
