CC ADOPTS DRAFT POLITICAL RESOLUTION
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met at Kolkata from January 19 to 21, 2018. The Central Committee discussed the Draft Political Resolution for the 22nd Congress presented by the Polit Bureau and adopted it after incorporating some amendments. The Draft Political Resolution of the Central Committee will be released for discussion in the Party two months before the Congress.
Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, addressing a press conference after the meeting on January 21, said that after four months of discussion and three central committee meetings, the CC has adopted the draft for discussion within the Party before the Party Congress. The adoption process has seen discussions discharging high degree of inner-Party democracy. The amendments to the draft by Polit Bureau have been voted upon and adopted by majority decision.
Yechury said, the draft says that main task is to defeat BJP and its government. BJP has unleashed four pronged attack on Indian people. First is the economic attack as all promises made by the BJP have been proved hollow. Peasants are in crisis, unemployment situation deteriorating , the gap between rich and poor has grown to the extent, seen never before. Second attack is the communalisation and polarisation by Hindutva forces which has threatened the integrity of the country. Third attack is on parliamentary democracy. Authoritarian onslaught on institutions are manifest everywhere – in media, in Supreme Court, research institutions. Fourth is complete surrender to US interests. By becoming the strategic ally of USA, the government is opening up all sectors of economy for profit maximisation. FDI has been allowed in defence, financial sector, and retail.
Yechury said, in this situation we want to mobilise all secular democratic forces against BJP. In the draft, we have said that appropriate electoral tactics will be made to pool maximum strength against BJP. There will be no understanding or alliance with the Congress.
Yechury said, the Central Committee discussed about coming elections in three states, particularly in Tripura. In Tripura, BJP is emerging as an anti-Left pole. They are collecting all sorts of fissiparous and even extremist forces. On the one hand, BJP is tomtoming nationalism throughout the country, propagating their kind of patriotism. On the other hand, they are aligning with IPFT, which started its journey by demanding separation of Tripura from India. It shows BJP can go to any extent to counter the Left. They are trying to create tensions, but the people have thwarted them. In Tripura, Left Front will take on the challenge of defeating the BJP.
