KERALA: Protest against Centre’s Strategic Partnership with Israel

N S Sajith

CPI(M) has organised a state wide campaign and protest on July 19 against the centre’s strategic partnership with Israel. Modi government has been trying to derail the foreign policy pursued by the country for past several decades. The protest is organised in the wake of Modi’s recent visit to Israel. CPI(M) has appealed all democratic forces to protest against the centre’s decision to make Israel a strategic partner of India. Thousands of people in Kerala came out registering their strong protest against the central government’s decision to ally with war mongering, Zionist Israel.

The state wide campaign demanded an end to all strategic security and military partnership with Israel. The joint declaration of Modi and Netanyahu to fight against terrorism was preposterous. The biggest ‘terrorist' country in the world is Israel which the Modi government had conveniently ignored. Modi’s refusal to visit Palestinian territory clearly indicated the flawed policy of the government. The protest meetings demanded the Modi government to withdraw the alliance and expressed their solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle for their motherland.

While inaugurating the protest evening in Gandhi Park in Thiruvananthapuram, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that the decision of the central government to go with Israel reflects the dubious agenda of the RSS. India has strategically turned in favour of Israel in order to strengthen the India-US-Israel axis.

L K Advani, as a member of the Vajpayee cabinet visited Israel during the NDA regime. Subsequently many BJP ministers followed his path. Modi is the first prime minister to visit Israel. When the then president Pranab Mukherjee visited Israel, he paid a visit to Palestine too. But Prime Minister Modi was very keen to avoid a visit to Palestine. Modi even announced that India is for Israel. Communal intentions and political agenda drove this decision. Modi clubbed India with the anti-Islam maneuverings of the US and Israel, he added. CPI(M) district secretary Anavoor Nagappan presided over the meeting.

Central Committee members P K Gurudasan, Vaikom Vishwam and Elamaram Karim inaugurated the protest evening programmes at Pathanamthitta,   Ernakulam and Kozhikode respectively.
