Dalit Swabhiman Sangharsh to Hold Protest Rally In New Delhi on September 16
The All India Agricultural Workers Union, Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union, Republican Party of India, Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch and the National Council for Protection of Dalit Rights, have come together to resist the intolerable attacks being made on dalits, whose women and children, homes and settlements are daily targets of attack at the hands of anti-social elements under the protection of the RSS and other vigilante groups of the Sangh Parivar with the tacit support of the NDA government, all over the country, notably in states like Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra which are under their rule. Even neighbouring states like Punjab, UP and Jharkhand are not spared from their violence and murders. No excuse is too small for these terrorists. Even conducting traditional activities like skinning cattle can lead to brutal assaults and murder with the present government and the prime minister remaining silent for months. Statements when they do come are only publicised when the deed is done, people have fled their homes and the terror of these organisations has frightened the people. The dalit community in the country and organisations standing by dalit rights and defending them have together now started a broad platform, Dalit Swabhiman Sangharsh, to organise mass actions across the country to put an end to this savagery.
They have decided to give a call for a demonstration and dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on September 16, 2016. This was announced at a press conference on August 26. Among the speakers who addressed the press conference were Prakash Ambedkar (RPI), Nagendranath Ojha, ex-MP, general secretary of the Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union, S Thirunavukkarasu, president, All India Agricultural Workers Union and V Srinivas Rao, leader of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch, among others.
They appealed to all who believe in the importance of the eradication of untouchability as fundamental to the Indian constitution, the necessity of defending legislation protecting the rights of dalits and defending social equality, to make a special effort to attend this gathering and make it a success.
