DELHI: Left Parties Dharna against Cent Percent FDI

THE Left parties – CPI(M), CPI, AIFB, SUCI (C) and CGPI – organised a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on June 27 against the decision of the Modi government to allow 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in a host of sectors including defence sector, retail food trade, civil aviation, cable networks, DTH and other telecom services. Apart from this, 74 percent FDI through the automatic route will be allowed to facilitate takeover of existing Indian pharmaceutical companies. FDI in the private security agencies has been increased from 49 to 74 percent. The provision for local sourcing for single brand retail trading has also been relaxed. Dharna was addressed by Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau member of CPI(M), Amarjeet Kaur (CPI), Ramesh Sharma and Pratap Samal (SUCI (C) ) and Birju Nayak (CGPI). Meeting was addressed by Dinesh Varshney (CPI). Brinda Karat blasted the anti-people policies of the central government, which is putting immense hardships over the working class and poor. The policies of this government clearly show that it is committed towards the multinational corporations (MNCs) and not the people. She also criticised the AAP government, which has not taken any stand till now on this disastrous decision of the central government.
