Gurugram Unacceptable
THE Haryana state secretariat of CPI(M) in a statement issued on April 13, has strongly objected to the names of Gurgaon and Mewat being changed. Gurgaon being named as Gurugram is absolutely unacceptable. Dronacharya as a guru is believed to be a symbol of denial of education to dalits and associated with heinous and outrageous episode of chopping off Ekalavya’s thumb in the Mahabharata epic.
In the press release issued by CPI(M), it has blamed the BJP led state government of taking the repugnant step on the eve of April 14 being celebrated as 125th anniversary all over the country in respect and memory of Dr Ambedkar, a great fighter against untouchability and caste discrimination. Similarly the change of Mewat by Nuh is yet again motivated by narrow communal angle as Mewat has a definite historical and cultural identity in itself.
The Party has appealed to all democratic and social justice loving organisations and individuals to raise their voice against draconian decisions taken by Haryana cabinet and force it to retain the names as Gurgaon and Mewat.
In a separate press release, the Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch (DSMM) has also condemned this name change and called for its withdrawal.
