The All India Kisan Sabha (36 Canning Lane), All India Kisan Sabha (Ajoy Bhavan), All India Agricultural Workers’ Union (36 Canning Lane), Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union (Ajoy Bhavan) have issued the following statement on February 24, 2015
A SUCCESSFUL joint march to parliament was organised on February 24 with the slogan “Scrap Land Acquisition Ordinance; Ensure Land Rights” demanding withdrawal of the ordinance declared by the Narendra Modi government to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. Thousands of farmers, agricultural workers, tribals, dalits and dependents on land attended the struggle to express their anger against the ordinance and sought its repeal. The agitation was supported by various organisations and individuals representing vast sections of the society. If the government is not willing to withdraw the ordinance there will be intensified countrywide agitation in the coming days.
The parliament march was a great success since the unity of vast social organisations and peasant and agricultural workers unions has been achieved on an issue based struggle. Both the All India Kisan Sabha organisations have initiated struggles by giving call to burn the effigy of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 30, 2015 protesting the anti-farmer ordinance. After that the parliament march was announced and discussions were held with different social groups and nongovernmental organisations and individuals to assure maximum unity of secular and democratic sections. The Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal, Octogenarian leader and Gandhian Socialist Anna Hazare, NAPM leader Medha Padekar, Justice Rajendra Sachar etc among others attended the struggle. AIKS 36, Canning Lane general secretary Hannan Mollah and AIKS Ajoy Bhavan general secretary Atul Kumar Anjan also addressed the farmers who attended the march.
The leaders met President Pranab Kumar Mukharjee and submitted a memorandum. He expressed concern at the plight of farmers and said he would send the memorandum to the government for appropriate action.
