DUJ Protest Day on November 28 Against Invisible Press Censorship

The following is the press statement issued by the Delhi Union of Journalists on November 26. THE Delhi Union of Journalists and the Delhi Press Unity Centre 2014 have called upon activists to join the protest meeting in the union premises on Friday evening against the invisible press censorship of trade union movements in general and even of struggles including court cases pertaining to journalists and press workers. The protest follows the blackout of the historic judgment pertaining to Hindustan Times workers and other newspaper struggles. The meeting will also take note of codes of conduct regarding coverage of such news in various newspapers which are indeed ominous. It is also reported that in the past few days a lightening strike in one TV unit was blacked out. In the DUJ’s view what has begun is invisible self-censorship of the media by its corporate owners often at the behest of governments and media managers.
