AIKS Condemns Brutal Attack on Its leaders by TMC Goons in Bengal
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has issued the following statement on October 18.
THE Paschim Banga Krishak Sabha has conducted an intense jatha campaign from October 15-19 in Bengal and reached out to the peasantry spread across over 38,000 villages with a ten-point demand charter and mobilised them in protest against the anti-peasant policies of the BJP-led central government and the TMC-led state government.
The campaign and protest jatha in each district was led by the Kisan Sabha leadership. In East Midnapore district, senior leader Tarun Roy, state joint secretary and Central Kisan Committee member was leading the jatha comprising over 200 kisan volunteers in the Potashpur Police Station limits. On October18 when the jatha reached Selmabajpur village under Gopalpur panchayat, the jatha members were brutally attacked by Trinamool goons armed with lethal weapons. Over 40 kisan volunteers were injured in the attack. Tarun Roy was seriously injured in the attack and had to be shifted to a hospital in Kolkata.
The All India Kisan Sabha condemns this heinous attack and warns the TMC government that rather than being cowed down by such cowardly attacks, every such attack would be met politically and with far greater numbers. The AIKS calls upon all democratic forces to unite against the attacks on democracy being unleashed by the TMC goons with full backing of the government and rally to protect the hard-won rights of the peasantry.
