CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar addressed two huge mass meetings at Sidhai Mohanpur and Gandhigram on July 7 as part of the Left Front’s campaign for the three tier panchayat elections in the state. Both the meetings witnessed impressive presence of the people from both tribal and non tribal masses. Urging the masses to ensure huge victory for the Left Front, Manik Sarkar severely criticised the Modi government for its anti people steps including hike in rail fare, freight charges. Sarkar came down heavily on the NDA government for its proposed steps to dilute the MGNREGA. He said, after assuming office promising achche din, what we are witnessing is hike in rail fare, freight charges, petrol and diesel prices. Now we are hearing that the government is contemplating to dilute and discontinue MGNREGA. He warned the Modi government against any such step which shall be detrimental to the interests of the rural poor. He said the government should desist from any such step. If they do so, they will be playing with fire. This will result in stormy protests from across the country, he warned.
