PUNJAB: Comrade Rattan Singh Marxwadi Chetna Kendra Inaugurated at Derabasi

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury inaugurated the Comrade Rattan Singh Marxwadi Chetna Kendra at Derabasi on December 10, 2016 at Derabasi in district Mohali, on the first death anniversary of Comrade Rattan  Singh. Comrade Rattan Singh was the chairman of the state control commission for a long time. He donated a big chunk of land at Derabasi to the Party.  The Marxwadi Chetna Kendra will be utilised for the northern region party school and it will be an extension centre of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet Bhawan Party Education Centre, New Delhi.

PUNJAB: Janwadi Istri Sabha Holds State Conference

THE two day conference of Janwadi Istri Sabha, Punjab was held on September 29-30, 2016 at the historical town of Nurmahal in Jalandhar district of Punjab. Sudha Sundararaman, all India vice president of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) said that the atrocities against women are on the rise as is evident from the news of rapes, eve teasing, dowry, burning of women appearing in each and every newspaper of the country day in and day out. She said that commoditisation of women’s bodies is rising as can be seen in advertisements on television and the programmes shown on TV.

PUNJAB: Dharna on Burning Issues

A JOINT convention was organised by four Left parties – CPI, CPI(M), CPM Punjab and  CPI(ML) Liberation on July 6 at Grain Market grounds in Barnala against the anti-people policies of the  central and state governments and for settlement of the genuine and just demands of the working people.  More than 2000 people from the Malwa region of Punjab participated in the convention.

AIKS State Conference Held

THE 38th state conference of the All India Kisan Sabha, Punjab unit was held at Bhawanigarh (Sangrur) on June 5-6, 2016. A mass rally was organised on the occasion of this two-day state conference on June 7. Gurchetan Singh Bassi presided over the rally. Addressing the rally, Hannan Mollah, all India general secretary of the AIKS said that the agricultural crisis all over the country has put the peasantry in distress.

Selected Works of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet Released in Chandigarh

Sitaram Yechury, flanked by two sons of Comrade Surjeet and other state leaders of CPI(M), releasing the book Selected Works of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet in Chandigarh on April 4. He also unveiled a statue of Com Surjeet. Thereafter, he addressed a meeting of Party workers and other dignitaries assembled at the venue, Bhakna Bhawan (a memorial of Ghadri Babas) on this occasion.

CPI(M) Punjab State Committee Office Attacked By RSS & BJP Goons

THE Punjab state headquarter of Communist Party of India (Marxist) was attacked by the RSS and BJP goons in Sector 30-B, Chandigarh on February 17 at about 5.30 pm. About 75 hoodlums threw stones at the office building. Five policemen who were present at the site along with the hoodlums, were silent spectators when they were throwing stones at the office building. Rather the policemen were asking the people inside to get behind doors.

Left Parties Hold Jathas across Punjab against Growing Intolerance

FOUR Left parties -- CPI(M), CPI, CPM Punjab and CPI(ML) Liberation -- held a week-long jatha programme in Punjab from December 1 to 7 against growing intolerance in the country and to spread the message of peace and communal harmony. The programme was also in support of the 15-point charter of demands of Left parties, containing the burning issues facing the people of the state. The programme got a very encouraging and good response from people all over Punjab.
