 Miscarriage of Justice

 The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on January 25, 2013. 
THE decision of the army court of inquiry to close the case on the Pathribal killing of five civilians in Kashmir is a travesty of justice.
It may be recalled that the CBI had investigated the matter and chargesheeted five army officers on the charges of abduction and murder.

On AAP Agitation

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), while in session in New Delhi,  issued the following statement on January 21, 2014.

THE wider question of the accountability of the police in Delhi is of vital concern to the people, especially in the context of the rising number of crimes against women.

AIAWU Welcomes NHRC Notice

THE All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) in a statement issued on January 7 has welcomed the suo motu notice served by the National Human Rights Commission to the secretary, union ministry for rural development and those of seven states on the suicides of MGNREGA workers as a result of non-payment of dues for work done over a long period of time in 2012-2013.

Left Agitation Against Price Rise, Jan 15-31

Leaders of the Left parties, viz the CPI(M), CPI, AIFB and RSP, met in New Delhi on January 7, 2014, and issued the following statement.

THE Left parties express serious concern over the crushing burden of price rise which is affecting all sections of the people. There is no respite in the upwards spiral of prices of food items and essential commodities, with food inflation reaching a record high of 20 per cent.

The UPA government is adding fuel to the fire by continuously increasing the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and CNG.

US Treatment Outrageous

Prakash Karat, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on December 18:

THE arrest and the treatment meted out to the Indian Deputy Consul General in New York, Devyani Khobragade, by the American authorities was outrageous. It indicates how the US administration views India and its diplomats.

The Ugly American

IT’S a long time since one heard the Indian government raise its voice against the US. Surprising, for a change! Of course, what is not surprising is the conduct of the US. Way back, in 1958, was published a novel, The Ugly American, which dealt with the arrogance of the US diplomats and State department officials. Though the novel deals about their arrogance in the countries in which they were posted, particularly the Third World countries of Asia and Africa, what is true is their arrogance even while dealing with the people of these countries posted in the US.
