Comrade Mangaleshwari Devi

CPI(M) expresses deep condolence on the demise of Comrade Mangaleshwari Devi. She was one of the first women hailing from tribal community to join the Left movement in the state. Comrade Devi, wife of former chief minister and eminent leader of the CPI(M), Comrade Dasarath Deb has contributed immensely to the Left and progressive movement in the state of Tripura. 

CITU Pays Homage to Com N Venkateswarlu

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions, in a statement issued on May 7, has  expressed its deep sorrow at the shocking demise of Comrade N Venkateswarlu (Kiran), general secretary of Telangana United Electricity Employees Union and office bearer of EEFI. He breathed his last in the early hours of May 7, 2019 in a hospital in Hyderabad after fighting cancer for the last one year.Comrade N Venkateswarlu known as Kiran joined Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) in 1990 as a boulder breaker in the coal plant. Soon he joined CITU Affiliated UEEU.

Comrade Subodh Das Passes Away

VETERAN CPI(M) leader Subodh Das passed away at G B Pant Hospital in Agartala on February 24 after remaining bed-ridden for several months. He was 74. A former member of the CPI(M) Tripura state committee and a former minister in the third Left Front government, Das was a bachelor. Das was born in Habiganj in Syllhet district of undivided India (now Bangladesh) on January 15, 1964. After completing matriculation, he, along with his family members, migrated to Dharmanagar, North Tripura.

Comrade Mohar Singh

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Mohar Singh, former member of the Central Committee and former secretary of Himachal Pradesh state committee of the Party.  He died on January 11 at the age of 68. Mohar Singh began his political life as a student activist in Himachal Pradesh and built the student movement in Himachal Pradesh. He became the acting secretary of the state committee from 1985 to 1991.  From 1991 to 2004, he was elected as the secretary of the state committee.

Comrade Nirupam Sen

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statements on December 24The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Nirupam Sen, former member of the Polit Bureau and an outstanding leader of the Party. He died on December 24 after a prolonged illness at the age of 72.Nirupam Sen began his political life as a student activist and became a prominent leader of the Bengal Provincial Student Federation and later the Students’ Federation of India.

Amit Sengupta: Champion of the movement against drug patents in India

AFTER the accidental death of Dr Amit Sengupta on November 28, glowing tributes were rightfully paid to him for his significant contribution to people’s health movement. However, his outstanding contribution to formulating the Patent Act,1970 and thereby bringing down the price of life-saving drugs in the country has skipped the attention of many.Comrade Amit’s contribution to drug patents, over three decades, had a profound impact on the drug manufacturing capacity of Indian companies and had serious political implications.

Condolence Resolution

G VeeraiyanThe Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade G Veeraiyan, former member of the Tamil Nadu state committee of the Party who died on November 18. He was 86.Born into a share-cropping peasant family in 1932, Comrade GV studied upto fourth standard. He was one of the members of the Co-ordination Committee to form the CPI(M) in Tamil Nadu. Veeraiyan served in various positions in the Party in the erstwhile Thanjavur district, in the Party state committee and state secretariat.

Amit Sengupta

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on November 29DR Amit Sengupta, a leading figure in the people’s science and public health movements, died in tragic circumstances in Goa on November 28.  Amit Sengupta was the former general secretary of the All India People’s Science Network and convenor of the Jan Swastya Abhiyan (People’s Health Movement).Amit Sengupta joined the Party in 1979 as a student activist. He played a key role in formulating the Party’s policies on the popular science campaign and on public health.

Tamil Nadu: Veteran Peasant Leader Comrade G Veeraiyan Passes Away

CPI(M) Tamil Nadu pays rich tributes to the departed senior leader of the PartyCOMRADE G Veeraiyan, a senior leader of CPI(M) in Tamil Nadu and a leading light of the peasant movement in the state for the last 60 years breathed his last in the early hours on November 18 at Sithadi village near Kudavasal of Thiruvarur district after a brief illness. He was 86.Born into a share-cropping peasant family in 1932, Comrade GV studied up to fourth standard.
