Journalist Unions Express Concern on Proposed Broadcasting Bill 2023

Journalist Unions Condemn the Raids

THE National Alliance of Journalists, the Delhi Union of Journalists and the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (Delhi Unit), in a statement issued on October 13, have condemned the police raids at the houses of journalists and many others connected to Newsclick. Phones and laptops of these journalists were seized. Several of the media persons have been taken into custody.

Revoke FIR against Editors’ Guild

THE Delhi Union of Journalists, in a statement issued on September 5, has severely condemned the filing of an FIR by the Imphal police against the Editors’ Guild of India (EGI) for its fact-finding report on the violent conflict in Manipur. A three-member team of veteran journalists had visited Manipur recently to examine how media organisations had been reporting the ongoing ethnic conflict. The FIR has been filed against the team members Seema Guha, Sanjay Kapoor and Bharat Bhushan as well as the president of the Guild, Seema Mustafa.

Journalists Condemn Murder

INDIAN journalists, over a hundred of them, from different parts of the country, have sent a letter to Naftali Bennett, prime minister of Israel through the Israeli embassy in Delhi on May 16, strongly condemning the 'murder' of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh who was shot in the face while she was reporting a raid by Israeli soldiers from Jenin. The letter said that the shocking assassination – described as such by Al Jazeera – again underlines the Israeli government's inability to accept independent journalism that speaks the truth.
