University of Hyderabad Student Union Polls: Unity of the Oppressed is the Need of the Hour!

THE Students’ Union elections of the University of Hyderabad were held last week. Unlike the years before, this election held a significant importance in the national scenario. Universities and institutes across the country faced an onslaught of attacks on their autonomy through a set of policies and ineligible appointments under the present BJP-led government.

CPI(M) Greets Tudeh Party, Iran on its 75th Anniversary

Fully Recover Legitimate Revenue from RIL

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on September 29.

THE Justice A P Shah Committee report on the compensation from Reliance Industries Ltd regarding the Godavari-KG Basin natural gas fields was submitted on August 30, 2016.

According to the report 11.2 million cubic meters of gas had migrated from the ONGCs Godavari blocks to the adjoining KG-D6 block of RIL between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2015. This gas is estimated at a value of Rs 11,000 crores at current prices.

On Government’s Brief to Some Opposition Leaders

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on September 29.

THE government briefed some leaders of the opposition parties on certain operations conducted by the Indian army. The government informed that at two points across Kupwara and Poonch these operations took place.

The government had informed that these operations have ended this morning. The CPI(M) expects that there is no further escalation of hostilities henceforth.

Reject the Proposal of Creating a "Bad Bank"

IN a letter written to the prime minister on October 4, regarding the proposal to create a “bad bank” as the solution proposed by the government to overcome the humongous  amounts of outstanding NPAs by the corporates, Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), noted that bad loan provisioning for most State-owned banks doubled – and even trebled in some cases – in 2015-16, as shown by recent reports. To make matters worse, the core earnings of most of these banks have fallen grossly short of the requirement for bad loan provisioning.

CPI(M) Delegation Visits Greece

A TWO-member delegation consisting of Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) general secretary and Mridul De, Central Committee member  is on a four day visit from September 21, to Greece at the invitation of the Communist Party of Greece. During this visit they would be having bilateral talks and exchanges on the international situation and the situation in their respective countries. 

On Merger of Railway Budget

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on September 22, 2016.

THE decision by the union cabinet to merge the railway budget with the general budget is a unilateral step without discussion in parliament. It was parliament which was empowered to discuss railway finances and development.

The abolition of a separate railway budget is not what it is purported to be. It is a measure towards commercialisation and privatisation of the Indian railways.

Cauvery Dispute: Eschew Violence, Maintain Normalcy

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement September 13, 2016.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) is shocked and dismayed at the reports of violence and arson in Karnataka and some parts of Tamil Nadu.
 
The Polit Bureau appeals to the people of both the states to maintain calm over the Supreme Court decision on the sharing of Cauvery river waters.  The Polit Bureau calls upon the state governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to ensure the protection of people’s lives and properties.
