RSS/BJP ESCALATING VIOLENCE IN KERALA

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 27.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the bomb attack by RSS/BJP goons on a public meeting in Thalassery, Kannur, Kerala yesterday, which was being addressed by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The meeting was held in connection with the inauguration of the memorial of martyr KP Jithesh, who too was killed years back in an attack by the RSS.

Call for Central Party Fund

THE Central Committee in its meeting held from January 6-8, 2016 gave a call for collection of funds for the Party Centre. All Party units should collect the funds from the people. The state committees should send the amount collected by June 30, 2017.The quota for states and central units is as follows:

Hirakhand Express Accident

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 22.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its shock and deep sorrow at the Hirakhand Express accident in which thirty two people have been reported killed so far and fifty four injured. Nine bogies of the Jagadalpur-Bhubaneswar train were derailed as a result of the accident which took place in the Vijayanagaram district of Andhra Pradesh.

Oppose Disinvestment in General Insurance

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 19, 2017.THE CPI(M) strongly opposes the clearance given by the union cabinet for disinvestment of shares in the five public sector general insurance companies. The decision is to disinvest by 25 percent shares in each of these companies.By this step, the government is weakening the nationalised general insurance companies which have been running well.

Police Repression at Bhangar Condemned

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 18.THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemns the police firing at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal which has resulted in the death of two persons.The local people have been protesting against the acquisition of land for a power grid project. The TMC government should stop using force against the protestors. It should open talks with the people to settle the issue.  There can be no forcible acquisition of land. 

Debate on Uniform Civil Code Ill-timed, Smacks of Politics: CPI(M) to Law Commission

THE CPI(M) has said that the Law Commission seeking opinion of political parties on the viability of a uniform civil code is ill-timed and smacks of a politically motivated agenda.     In a letter to Law Commission Chairman Justice B S Chauhan on December 17, 2016, Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said, “At the outset, it is to be stated that the CPI(M) is constrained to observe that the exercise undertaken by the Law Commission to ‘engage’ in a ‘healthy conversation’ about the ‘viability of a uniform civil code’ smacks of a politically motivated agenda.

On the Supreme Court Verdict

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 3, 2017. THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the majority verdict of the seven-member constitution bench of the Supreme Court which held that the electoral process is a secular activity and religion can have no place in such an activity.

On appointment of New Chief of Army Staff

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on December 19.THE appointment of the new chief of Army Staff has been done bypassing the established convention of the senior most general assuming the post.  The Modi government’s departure from this precedent has raised questions about the intent and motivation of the government.  The Indian army should not be subject to any political interference.
