RESISTANCE against fascism has always come from two quarters, the Left, and the liberal bourgeoisie. The Second World War was fought between the fascist powers on one side and an alliance of the Soviet Union with liberal bourgeois States on the other. Even in anti-fascist resistance movements in Europe, there was, apart from the Communist contingent, a liberal bourgeois one as well, whose leading personality in France for instance was Charles De Gaulle.

THERE are just two days left in the first phase of elections in the state. The whole state is geared up for the current elections. What, according to you, are the most important issues for the election campaign?

CAMPAIGNING in the state of Tamilnadu which is to go to polls on April 24, the sixth phase of the general elections, Manik Sarkar, member of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau and the chief minister of Tripura, addressed three huge meetings on two days --- April 14 and 15.

BEFI Supports Left Parties

BANK Employees Federation of India (BEFI) in its central committee meeting held at Bengaluru on March 8 had a thorough discussion on the present political scenario of the country in the wake of the 16th Lok Sabha elections. The general secretary while initiating the discussions briefed about the vulnerability of the banking industry and the dangers faced by the public sector banks due to the faulty policy of the successive governments at the centre be it the Congress government or Congress led UPA government or BJP led NDA government.

Parched Villages and Corporate Water Politics in Gujarat

IN September 2013, the member secretary of the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewage Board declared Gujarat a water surplus state. Speaking at a national conference, he stated that all villages should get 50 litres per capita per day (LPCD) of water, while each city should get 140 LPCD as per government norms, but in Gujarat we are now providing 100 LPCD of water to every village and 150 LPCD to every town as per government norms.

CPI(M) Team Meets CEC

ON March 30, a delegation of the CPI(M)’s Jharkhand state committee, led by its secretary G K Baksi, met the chief election commissioner V S Sampat, at the Administrative Training Institute at Ranchi. It was part of the series of meetings scheduled by the commission to meet the representatives of different political parties independently.
The memorandum submitted by the CPI(M) delegation invited attention of the commission and asked for its intervention on the following issues.

CPI(M) Election Campaign Vigorously Continues

THE CPI(M) is contesting four Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra for the first time. Of these, the Palghar (ST) seat in Thane district and the Dindori (ST) seat in Nashik district are its traditional tribal belt seats where the party has consistently secured over one lakh votes each in the last few Lok Sabha elections. The other two seats which the party is fighting for the first time are the general seats of Nashik and Hingoli. The latter comprises parts of Yavatmal district in Vidarbha region and Hingoli and Nanded districts in Marathwada region.
