TELANGANA: Uranium Extraction to Effect People

A ROUND table conference was organised on July 28, 2019 in Sundarayya Vignana Kendram against extraction of Uranium in Amrabad region in Nallamala forest. State secretaries of CPI, CPI(M) and other Left leaders along with many other intellectuals and scientists and environmentalists participated in the discussion. They demanded that extraction of Uranium be stopped forthwith.

TRIPURA: Tribal Youth Federation Holds Special Convention

On August 13, Tribal Youth Federation of Tripura organised a special convention at Agartala Town Hall with ten-point demands to the state and central government to resolve the matters of employment and jobs for youth, demands regarding education policies and livelihoods of the people. Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) Manik Sarkar inaugurated the convention.

Agartala City has witnessed a spirited and enthusiastic presence of the tribal youth in this convention at the Town Hall.

MAHARASHTRA: AIDWA Forms Reception Committee for its National Conference

THE 12th all India conference of AIDWA will be held in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, from December 27-30, 2019. A reception committee to host the same was formed on July 27 in Mumbai in the presence of five AIDWA central office bearers – national president Malini Bhattacharya, vice presidents Subhashini Ali and Sudha Sundarraman, general secretary Mariam Dhawale and treasurer P K Shrimati.

TAMIL NADU: Workshop on Communist Manifesto

BHARATHI Puthagalayam has organised a two-day workshop on Communist Manifesto on July 27 and 28 in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. The idea is to conduct readings of the Communist Manifesto and popularise it in 10,000 places and to take one lakh copies of the book to the Left activists, sympathizers and general public using various means and avenues.

Karnataka: Release of Capital in Kannada

MARXISM only offers powerful, unique and true critique of capitalism; hence, as long as capitalism lasts you cannot do without Marxism, asserted Professor Prabhat Patnaik. He was delivering the keynote address at a seminar on ‘150 years of Capital’ and ‘Re-inventing Left’ at Bangalore on August 2. The seminar was organised as part of the day-long celebration on the release of Kannada translation of ‘Capital Vol 1’. It was organised by Kriya Madhyama in collaboration with Navakarnatakaas, part of the ‘Marx 200-Capital 150’ project.

Article 370 and Kashmir’s Land Reforms

JAMMU and Kashmir was the first state in the country to introduce land reforms. There were two components of J&K’s land reforms. First, the system of absentee landlordism that had prevailed during the Maharaja’s time was completely done away with. The land of the absentee landlords was taken over without any compensation and simply distributed among the tenants; whoever was cultivating whatever amount of land on the absentee landlord’s estate as tenant was simply given ownership of that much of land without having to pay any amount of money for obtaining ownership.
