INSTEAD of announcing a big increase in public investment to build our much-needed infrastructure, at the same, generate employment and thereby boost domestic demand, the finance minister has once again announced measures that in the first place have caused this economic slowdown bordering on recession.

THE publication of final NRC in Assam has drawn the attention of the whole country. Not only now but for last couple of years, with the publication of first draft, stories related to NRC are hitting the headlines in all forms of media. The question of ‘stateless’ people it may create has been keenly watched by the international media as well. 

The Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party – have issued the following statement on September 16

THE United Left Alliance has won all four central panel posts in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union polls.

The United Left alliance of SFI – Students’ Federation of India, Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), All India Students' Association (AISA), and All India Students' Federation (AISF) has won the elections, bagging all four central panel posts with thumping majorities.

Aishe Ghosh of SFI has been elected as the president, defeating the nearest opponent candidate by 1,185 votes.

THE CPI(M) Telangana state committee held district-level meetings to mark Hyderabad merger day on September 17. On the day in 1948, Hyderabad State which was under Nizam, was merged with the union of India following the police action.  Celebrating the anniversary of the merger, a number of meetings were held in the districts. Under the auspices of the Greater Hyderabad Central City committee, the anniversary of the Telangana Armed Struggle (1946-52) was celebrated and a meeting was held in Sundarayya Vignana  Kendram in Hyderabad on September 17.
