From a Formal to an Informal US-empire in Afghanistan

AFGHANISTAN’S seven-day “reduction in violence” plan negotiated by the US and the Taliban commenced on February 21. Subsequently, the two erstwhile warring parties signed a deal to bring peace to Afghanistan on February 28. America promised phased withdrawal of its military forces from Afghanistan. It is hoped that this will mark the beginning of end of the American involvement in nearly two-decade-old Afghan war which began after the September 11 attacks.

Bihar: Save Constitution save Citizenship Rally

BIHAR government must clarify its stand on the NPR; it must issue a gazette notification to withdraw it; the government must also pass a resolution against the CAA. These were the foremost demands of a mass rally in Patna, held in Gandhi Ground on February 26, with the slogan of ‘save constitution, save citizenship’. Under the banner of ‘front against NPR-NRC-CAA’, this rally got an overwhelming response from the people; prominent social and political leaders participated in this rally.

TAMIL NADU: Massive Response to Citizenship Protection Conference

More than 15,000 people attended the ‘Citizenship Protection Conference’ organised by the Tamil Nadu Platform for People's Unity, an anti-communal platform, in Chennai on February 26. The conference demanded the central government to withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) and also sought the state government not to implement the discriminatory Act.

CPI(M)’s Appeal

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on February 28

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) appeals to the people, to all Party state committees, sympathizers and supporters to collect funds for relief and rehabilitation work for those affected by the communal violence in Delhi. The Delhi state committee of the CPI(M) will be forming a Solidarity Relief Committee for this purpose.
