THE Modi government has extended a welcome gift to John Kerry, the US Secretary of State who is visiting India. The union cabinet has approved the raising of the FDI cap in the insurance sector from 26 percent to 49 percent. Comrade Joni Tiru, local committee secretary of Namkum (West), Ranchi district, who had struggled against the land mafia all his life, was brutally murdered by miscreants. He was also secretary of Sodag Gram Sabha. The gram pradhan of Sodag, Kailash Khoya was also murdered.
THOUSANDS of protestors marched through Kolkata on July 17, condemning Israel’s aggression on Gaza. At the call of the Left Front, people assembled in Moulali in central Kolkata and marched to Park Circus Maidan. Biman Basu and other leaders of the Left Front led the rally. People from all walks of life, including workers, students, and intellectuals joined the rally. Fiery slogans were raised against Israel and US imperialism.
