AIDWA Flay BJP Minister’s Remarks on Rape

IN a statement issued from New Delhi on June 6, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemned the remark reportedly made by the home minister of Madhya Pradesh, Babulal Gaur, a day before. It was reported that on June 5 the minister had said “rape is a social crime which depends on the man and the woman; it is sometimes right and sometimes wrong;” and that “it is not possible for any government to ensure that rape is not committed.”

Protest Demo at UP Bhawan

ON May 31, 2014, several mass organisations including the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Janwadi Lekhak Sangh (JLS), Janwadi Mahila Samiti (JMS), Jan Natya Manch (JNM) and Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest demonstration at the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan against the horrific gang rape and murder of two teenage girls in Badaun district. More than 100 protesters gathered near the Gyarah Murti and marched towards the UP Bhawan, raising angry slogans and demanding justice and stringent action against the culprits.

Women’s Orgnanisations Submit Memo to NCW

IN a memorandum submitted to the chairperson of the National Commission for Women on April 30, the national women’s organisations demanded immediate action into the shocking incident of abduction and gang rape of four dalit girls in Bhagana village of Hissar district in Haryana on March 23. The memorandum noted that the perpetrators who have been arrested are sons of highly influential jat families with strong political connections with ruling party.

Shocking Statement

THE All India Democratic Women’s Association in a statement issued on April 11 strongly condemned the Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh for trivializing the serious crime of rape and gang rape in a public meeting at Moradabad on April 10, where he openly asked for condoning such heinous acts as momentary lapses.
