Chattisgarh: AIDWA State Conference

Prashant Jha

THE 5th state conference of the AIDWA Chattisgarh state was inaugurated by Mariam Dhawale on August 11. She said the struggle for equality is a struggle against feudalism and patriarchal values in the society. Targeting the BJP, she said that the BJP is a party that believes in and also practices feudal and patriarchal values. During BJP’s regime, the attacks on the women have increased; the BJP has unashamedly come forward to defend the culprits of Unnao and Kathua rape and murder cases. A mob on the street has been created by the BJP, which is brain washed to rampantly lynch people even for paltry reasons. She also spoke about the economic situation which has worsened in the past years.

The conference flag was hoisted by Umend Kunwar. A three member presidium comprised Ranga Veni, Ganga Sahu and Umend Kunwar. There were 100 delegates in the conference. The condolence resolution was placed by Ranga Veni. Folk and popular songs were sung by a team comprising Ganga Sahu and Shruti.

The state committee report was placed by Dhanbai Kuldip, state secretary of Chattisgarh. Twelve delegates took part in the discussion. A coordination committee of seven members was elected and Dhanbai Kuldip was unanimously elected as the convener of the committee. Neelam, Janki, Teras Bai, Shashi Kala, Dev Kunwar and Meena were elected as members.

After the completion of district conferences in Durg, Raipur and Rajnandgaon, state committee will be formed. The conference was concluded by Neena Sharma. She highlighted the importance of reaching out to more and more women to expand the reach of the organisation and to raise the democratic voice.

Dr Nidhi Kunwar, physician in the district hospital greeted the conference and called upon the women’s movement to be prepared to face the challenges. Ranga Veni thanked CITU, Kisan Sabha and DYFI for helping the AIDWA in the conference arrangements.
