P Sreeramakrishnan Elected as Kerala Assembly Speaker

P SREERAMAKRISHNAN, a young CPI(M) leader who won form Ponnani constituency in Malappuram district has been elected as the speaker of Kerala legislative assembly. LDF candidate got 92 vote one plus than its actual strength, as the opposition candidate V P Sajeendran of the Congress party managed to get 46 votes. Sreeramakrishnan was a former all India president of the DYFI. He won consecutively for two times from Ponnani, that is known as the Mecca of Kerala Muslims. He joined the democratic movement through the SFI. He completed his graduation from the NSS college in Ottappalam and joined as a teacher at Melattur R M High School. During the student days, he served as the Students Union chairman of Calicut University and as a syndicate member. In 2004, he was brutally attacked by the police during a strike against self finance colleges.
