Thinking Together

1.  The Party should use scientific methods to move forward. Recently more stress is being given for Whatsapp/Facebook etc. Will this Whatsapp/Facebook alone attract the youths towards our party?

2. The mouth propaganda is an important form of campaign for Communists. But the capitalism is trying to prevent this. The advent of new media has tied the people inside houses. The public meetings could not attract the people. This affects our campaign heavily. As communists how to overcome this?

1. The Party uses various means to propagate its political views and alternative policies.  Earlier, the main reliance has been on the printing word and oral propaganda. Since the advent of the electronic media, the Party seeks to utilise this media also to reach out to the people.  More recently, there has been the growth of the social media. This has become an integral part of communications and the media. It is natural, therefore, for the Party to utilise various forms of social media to purvey its ideas and to communicate with people.  It is true that the youth are more attuned to the social media.  If we have to reach out to the youth and communicate with them, social media is an important way to do so. But this alone is not sufficient to attract the youth as it is only a means of communication. Party must have an agenda and policies which are relevant and attractive for the youth. This is more important and social media is a platform through which we can take the politics and policies of the Party to the younger generation.

2.  The oral propaganda conducted through meetings of various types such as street corner meetings, group meetings and public meetings constitute the main form of campaign for Communists. With the development of technology and forms of communication such as television and social media, it is true that many people tend to view political discussions and get information about political developments sitting in their houses through television and social media.

At the same time, in India, we find people continue to participate in public meetings in large numbers.  Social media need not be a hindrance to this sort of public mobilisation. In fact, social media is being used increasingly to mobilise people to participate in meetings, rallies and protests.  We should learn to use the new media for such mobilisations.
