CPI(M) Greets Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on its Tenth Congress

The following is the text of the message of greetings sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the  Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on the occasion of its 10th  Congress. The message was sent on January 15.

DEAR Comrades,

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) greets the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party on the occasion of its 10th Congress and wishes the Congress all success. We are confident that the discussions and the decisions will lead to the strengthening of the Party. We also take this opportunity to greet all the members of your party and also the people of Laos.

The continuing global economic crisis, spiraling wars, terrorism and climate change are posing grave dangers before humanity. The efforts of international finance capital to come out of the global economic crisis have not only failed, but led to further crises. The Nairobi WTO ministerial talks, testify the fact that multi-lateral trade pacts are being coercively pushed to prise open the markets and resources of developing countries for exploitation. Rising rates of hunger, poverty, inequalities and unemployment point to the social impact of the crisis.

In West Asia, imperialism is involved in a military campaign to destabilise the region and enforce a regime change in Syria. The sectarian conflict in the region, which is threatening the existence of many States, is a result of the US' strategic design to control the regions' rich natural resources. US' hand can be seen behind the creation of almost all the notorious terrorist organisations.

The consequences of the interventionist policies of the US in West Asia, North Africa, are felt throughout the entire world. Racism, terrorist attacks, religious fundamentalism and jingoistic feelings are on the rise. The recent bomb blast in Jakarta, Indonesia, points out how far these tentacles of terror have spread.

Climate change is another serious challenge that urgently demands our intervention. Developed countries who have been rapaciously exploiting the planet, are trying to escape from their responsibility of saving it. Developed countries are trying to evade their responsibility of protecting the environment and had succeeded in shifting this responsibility on to the shoulders of the developing countries in the recently concluded Paris Climate Change Summit. All such attempts must be resisted.

Comrades,

Income inequalities, poverty and unemployment are on the rise in our country due to the implementation of neo-liberal policies. The right-wing religious fundamentalist government, not only had failed to address these concerns, but is accentuating them. The government is increasingly succumbing to the pressures of the US and is sacrificing the interests of our country people. On the other hand, there is a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of the people from these pressing livelihood concerns, by encouraging all sorts of divisive forces. Tolerance, freedom of expression and right to organise are under severe threat. In our recently concluded Organisational Plenum, we have resolved to build a strong communist party, to meet all these challenges by mobilising the people in ever larger numbers.

Dear Comrades,

We have learnt that in your Congress, you will be reviewing your experiences of the past five years and on that basis formulating plans for the future. We are confident that the decisions you will be taking, will lead to further prosperity for the country.

Our two parties share strong bonds of solidarity and fraternal relations. On this occasion of the 10th Congress, we take this opportunity to reiterate our solidarity and once again wish the Congress a great success.

We are confident that the Congress will pave way for the further strengthening of fraternal relations between our two parties.

Revolutionary greetings

Central Committee
