A SEMINAR titled ‘Electoral Reforms: A Leftist Perspective’ was held in Madurai on October 4, 2014 as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of ‘Marxist’ – the ideological Tamil monthly magazine brought out by Tamilnadu state committee of the CPI (M). MA Baby, Polit Bureau member of the CPI (M) and R Vaigai, senior Counsel of Madras High Court addressed the seminar. Delivering the special address, MA Baby underscored the importance of, and necessity for such an ideological magazine as it is an instrument that initiates the debate on the Marxist philosophy with which the working class has to formulate its praxis – practical application of its ideological learning in its day to day life. He recalled the contributions of the Marxist veterans belonging to Tamilnadu like Comrades P Ramamurti, MR Venkatraman, A Balasubramaniam, VP Chintan, R Umanath, Pappa Umanath and PR Parameswaran.
