NPRD Condemns False Case

MEETING at Pratibandhi village in Kolkata on June 29 and 30, the national executive committee of the National Platform for the Rights of Disabled (NPRD) strongly condemned the attempt made by the state government of West Bengal, led by Trinamool Congress, to implicate Kanti Ganguly, general secretary of the NPRD, in a false case of murder. Ganguly has been a leading figure in organising and securing the rights of the disabled in West Bengal. The NPRD executive committee noted that Ganguly has also been fighting against the atrocities on disabled women, more than 60 of which were reported to have been perpetrated by hooligans of the Trinamool Congress under the Mamata Banerjee regime. The executive committee urged the state government to withdraw the case against him immediately. To the NPRD, the false case against Kanti Ganguly is symptomatic of the most undemocratic manner in which the Trinamool Congress is seeking to perpetuate its rule in West Bengal  and has unleashed a regime of rabid violence against the democratic forces in the state. Many disabled persons including the activists of the NPRD have been attacked. The executive committee expressed its anguish over the  lawlessness in West Bengal. The NPRD executive committee also called for a protest day throughout the country on July 7 and demanded immediate withdrawal of the said false case. It also demanded that a CBI enquiry must be instituted regarding this case.
