Stop Attacks on People from North-East

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on February 12, 2014. THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep concern at the continuing attacks on people from the North-East in Delhi. After the death of the Arunachal student, Nido Taniam, several other incidents have occurred, including the rape of a minor girl from Manipur and physical attacks on other young men. There is no doubt that there is a racist bias in such attacks. It is imperative that citizens from any part of the country are able to live in peace and harmony and to pursue their work or studies in the capital of India without being subject to racist attacks. While all necessary measures need to be taken to ensure the safety and security of people from the North-East in Delhi, the central government should also consider drafting an anti-racist law to curb such discrimination and attacks.
