DSMM Condemns Attack on Dalit family In Gujarat for Skinning Dead Cow

THE Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch, in a statement issued on July 14 has strongly condemned the gruesome attack on seven members of a dalit family by the cow protection vigilantes (gau rakshaks) in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district on July 11.

The victims were attacked with iron rods and sticks. They were tied to a car, while the group of gau rakshaks was beating them up. Two people sustained severe head injuries and were referred to Junagadh civil hospital for treatment.

DSMM Protests against Attack on Dalit Groom by Casteist forces

THE Delhi-NCR committee of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch (DSMM) organised a protest demonstration at Haryana Bhawan on May 27, against the shameful incident in Bhusthala village of Kurukshetra district where a dalit groom was attacked by the upper caste men for the crime of daring to ride a horse-drawn carriage in his wedding. The groom’s procession was attacked in spite of the police presence. Numerous dalit families have had to face such attacks in the past few years due to the casteist, feudal mentality.

NPRD Demands Withdrawal of Notification

THE National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) has written to prime minister Narendra Modi on May 25 urging him to withdraw the notification renaming the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities as the “department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (divyangjan)”. They had written to him earlier on January 22, 2016 urging him to shelve any plan that the government may have to use the term “divyang” to address people with disabilities.

Dalit Law Student Violently Raped and Killed

In a horrific incident unheard in the history of the state, a dalit woman pursuing her LLB at Eranakulam Government Law College was brutally raped and killed. The body of Jisha (29) was found in her single room home in Perumbavoor in a gruesome condition on May 28th night. In a shameful manner, Kerala police and state administration did not act for many days and finally two persons were taken into custody only after a massive protest was mounted all over the state by Left students, youth and women’s organisations.
