CITU Opposes FDI in Defence Production

THROUGH a statement issued from New Delhi on May 31, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) strongly opposed the Modi government’s move, as reported by the media, for allowing 100 percent FDI in defence sector. Such a move is totally detrimental to the interests of the indigenous defence production network, mainly under government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs), and also to the national security management and preparedness.

TMC ATTACKS CONTINUE IN WEST BENGAL POST POLL

AFTER the Lok Sabha polls were over in West Bengal, post-poll attacks have reached alarming proportions in almost all districts of the state. At least three CPI(M) activists and sympathisers have been killed in these attack while another, a student, succumbed to the physical and psychological trauma after attack. Several members of the legislative assembly (MLAs) and former MLAs have been assaulted. A number of party offices have also been attacked, ransacked, destroyed and burnt. More than 1000 Left supporters have been injured in these attacks.

CPI(M) to Review Poll Results

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) met in New Delhi on May 18, 2014, and subsequently issued the following statement.
THE Polit Bureau discussed the results of the Lok Sabha elections and the post-election situation. It conducted a preliminary review of the elections and the performance of the party. It examined the various factors which led to the poor results for the party and the Left.

West Bengal Verdict “Distorted”

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat termed the results of the Lok Sabha elections from West Bengal as “distorted”. Addressing the press in New Delhi on May 16, he said that there was widespread rigging and violence during the last three phases of the elections in the state and the entire democratic process was vitiated. “The results do not reflect the strength and support of the people for the Left Front in West Bengal”. He said that the Left Front has won from the seats where the polls were held in a more or less free and fair manner in the first two phases.

CPI(M) Demands Re-Poll In 301 Booths in Bengal

THE CPI(M) has demanded re-poll in 301 booths in five Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal for which elections were held on May 7. In a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission, the Party has said that rigging and violence in the elections held on May 7, have completely distorted the process of conducting free and fair polls. The Party has said that for the restoration of the people’s faith in the electoral process, it is essential that re-poll is conducted in the booths where rigging has taken place.
 

Widespread Rigging in West Bengal

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on April 30, 2014.

THE third phase of polling held in West Bengal on April 30, 2014 was marred by widespread rigging, violence and capture of polling booths. Hundreds of polling booths were affected in the Bolpur, Birbhum, Bardhaman Purba, Bardhaman-Durgapur, Howrah and Uluberia Lok Sabha constituencies. Polling agents of the CPI(M) and the Left Front were driven out in a number of booths and blatant false voting has taken place in the presence of polling personnel.

Appeal Chundur Verdict

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on April 24, 2014.
IT is unfortunate that the Andhra Pradesh High Court, in a judgement, has acquitted 21 persons sentenced to life imprisonment in the infamous Chundur case involving the massacre of dalits in 1991.
It is shocking that 23 years after the massacre, justice has not been rendered. It is imperative that the state government immediately lodge an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.

Lodge FIR against Amit Shah

IN a letter written to the chief election commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (EC), on April 7, the CPI(M) has brought to his notice the hate speeches being made by Amit Shah, a close aide of the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, and the BJP’s poll manager in Uttar Pradesh.
