ASSAM: Every Single Indian Citizen Must be Included in NRC: CPI(M)

THE CPI(M) Assam state committee, in a statement issued on July 31, has said that the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) is published on time as stipulated by the Supreme Court (SC) . As stated by NRC authority, out of a total 3.29 crore applicants 2.89 crores are included in the final draft. It means around 40 lakhs are not included in the draft. It is noticed that there are a lot of anomalies in the preparation of the draft NRC. A large number of women are left out from the draft who had submitted panchayat certificate as the linkage document. This is despite the fact that the SC declared the panchayat certificate as a valid document. They are left out without proper field verification. A large number of applicants who had deposited ration cards as supporting documents were reportedly rejected. It is unfortunate that people even with own legacy data are left out of the draft. Some family members of a single family who used the same legacy are surprisingly not included in the NRC draft. As a result apprehension and anxiety grips a large number of people in the state.

The CPI(M) has demanded that the time limit for claims for inclusion of names must be extended, as large number of people are left out from the final draft. The government should appoint one or two officers in each NSK (NRC seva kendra) exclusively for helping people who would make claims for inclusion in the final NRC. The Party also demanded that every single Indian should be included in the final NRC.

The CPI(M) has congratulatedthe people of the state for maintaining peace and tranquility despite strong provocation, misleading campaign and widespread apprehension. The Party has appealed that unity and integrity be maintained in coming days also and all provocations and conspiracies be defeated. The Party has directed all its members to help those who have been left out, so that their names are included in the final NRC.
