DYFI Organises Rail-Roko against Privatisation of Railways

INDIA is witnessing a spring of massive agitations on different fronts against the anti-people policies of the Modi regime. These agitations clearly indicate that the people who were suffering under the policies of economic liberalisation and privatisation are mounting significant resistance as their means of livelihood are under direct threat from government policies. Young people of the country including students, workers and farmers are participating in these agitations in large numbers.

SFI Condemns Assault on Kashmiri Students

THE central executive committee of SFI, in a statement issued on February 4, has condemned in the strongest possible words the assault of two Kashmiri students by a mob of people in Mahendargarh, Haryana. These students who belong to the minority community had gone to offer Friday prayers. While returning when they were crossing market area they were mercilessly beaten up with sticks, bricks and helmet. What is more shocking is that none of people there or the passersby came to their rescue. The police even refused to register an FIR in the case.

Stand against violent attack of Karni Sena on school students

THE central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), in a statement issued on January 26, has denounced the attack on a school bus by the Karni Sena on January 24, while they were protesting against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’. They hurled stones at the bus, creating panic among the young students. This act is against the law and order. SFI demands immediate strict action against the culprits of this attack.

Alliance for Social Justice led by SFI and ASA Sweeps HCU Elections

THE Alliance for Social Justice (ASJ) led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) have swept the Students Union 2017-18 elections at the University of Hyderabad (Hyderabad Central University – HCU).

ASJ candidates won all the major posts, defeating candidates from the alliance comprising the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the OBC Forum (OBCF).

Joint Convention of Youth and Students

A JOINT convention of students and youth was held successfully on 8th April 8, the day when Bhagat Singh, accompanied by Batukeshwar Dutt in 1929, threw two bombs into Central Assembly (the present-day Lok Sabha) protesting against the Public Safety Bill. They could probably have escaped but they stayed shouting the slogan Inquilab Zindabad ("Long Live the Revolution") and threw leaflets. This convention was dedicated to the memory of Bhagat Singh and his ideas.

SFI Calls for Marathwada Relief Campaign

THE Marathwada region of Maharashtra is passing through a severe drought for the straight fourth year now. While drought conditions exist today in 256 districts in 10 states of the country and affects nearly 33 crore people, the conditions are most acute in Marathwada. The acute drought condition has taken the form of shortage of water, food grains and cattle feed in the entire region.
