Unite to Thwart the danger of Communal Fascism

CPI(M) Leaders called for unity of all Left, democratic and secular forces to thwart the danger of communal fascism in the country. Along with it, they called upon to sharpen the struggle against anti-people economic policies of the Modi government.

They were addressing a well-attended public meeting on August 5 in Kolkata to mark the birth anniversary of Comrade Muzaffar Ahmad, a leading light in the communist movement of India.

Protests in West Bengal over Israeli Aggression in Gaza

THOUSANDS of protestors marched through Kolkata on July 17, condemning Israel’s aggression on Gaza. At the call of the Left Front, people assembled in Moulali in central Kolkata and marched to Park Circus Maidan. Biman Basu and other leaders of the Left Front led the rally. People from all walks of life, including workers, students, and intellectuals joined the rally. Fiery slogans were raised against Israel and US imperialism.

Jyoti Basu’s Birth Centenary Celebrated With a Call to Defend Democracy

THE birth centenary of Jyoti Basu - one of the most revered Communist leaders, was celebrated in West Bengal on July 8 with a variety of programmes including blood donation camps, seminars and cultural programmes. A central public meeting was organised by Jyoti Basu Birth Centenary Committee at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata, attended by thousands of people and addressed by Left leaders and intellectuals. Red flags were hoisted at the CPI(M) offices throughout the state.

Left Front to Organise Protest Actions in Districts

THE Left Front has decided to extend the protest demonstrations to districts against terror and attacks on democratic rights of the people. After the successful sit-in in Kolkata on June 25-27, Left parties and mass organisations will organise sit-in and other forms of protest at local levels. This has been announced at the concluding rally of the Kolkata sit-in. Biman Basu, addressing the rally said that from now on sit-in and demonstrations would be organised in front of police stations wherever attacks on Left supporters would be perpetrated.

NPRD Condemns False Case

MEETING at Pratibandhi village in Kolkata on June 29 and 30, the national executive committee of the National Platform for the Rights of Disabled (NPRD) strongly condemned the attempt made by the state government of West Bengal, led by Trinamool Congress, to implicate Kanti Ganguly, general secretary of the NPRD, in a false case of murder. Ganguly has been a leading figure in organising and securing the rights of the disabled in West Bengal.

Protests Erupt in West Bengal against Menacing Threat of TMC MP

WEST Bengal erupted in protest against Trinamool MP Tapas Paul’s open threat to kill CPI(M) workers and rape the women of their families. After his frightening speech was telecast, people from different sections have condemned him sharply. The Left Front has noted that the speech of the MP is another example of attack on human rights and democracy in West Bengal.
