Despicable Attack on Manik Sarkar, CPI(M) Leaders in Tripura

IN a reprehensible action, BJP goons attacked former chief minister Manik Sarkar and a group of CPI(M) leaders in Santirbazar in South Tripura on May 10, when they had gone to meet party workers and supporters who were targeted and whose houses and properties vandalised by hooligans of the ruling party a few days before. Besides Sarkar, the CPI(M) delegation included deputy leader of the opposition, Badal Chowdhury, MLA Sudhan Das, former MP Narayan Kar, and leaders of Santirbazar and Belonia sub-divisional committees of the party.

CPI(M) Re-Nominates Sitting MPs from Two Lok Sabha Seats in Tripura

ON March 12, Left Front announced the names of candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats of Tripura. Shankar Prasad Datta, sitting MP, member of CPI(M) state committee and general secretary of CITU Tripura state committee, will again contest from Tripura  West Constituency,  while Jitendra Choudhury,  CPI(M) central committee member and chief whip of CPI(M) in Lok Sabha will contest again from the East Tripura (ST) reserved seat.

Tripura Govt Will Protect 10323 Teachers Affected by SC Order

THE Supreme Court’s rejection of Special Leave Petitions against the judgement of the Tripura High Court which set aside the appointment of 10,323 school teachers without considering the far-reaching effect, disappointed large sections of people of Tripura including teachers and students. A division bench led by the then Tripura High Court Chief Justice Dipak Gupta (recently elevated to the Supreme Court) by its order dated May 7, 2014 quashed the appointment of 10,323 teachers which include 1,102 post-graduate teachers, 4,856 graduate teachers and 4,856 under-graduate teachers.

TRIPURA: Five-point Campaign Evokes Tremendous Response

AT the call of the CPI(M) Tripura state committee, a month long extensive campaign programme was launched from February last week to March end this year on the following 5-point charter of demands.

1.                 Provide 200 days work per year in MNREGA scheme. Introduce similar scheme in town areas for urban poor.

2.                 Immediately fill up the posts lying vacant in central government offices and raise cut off age for employment to 40 years.

3.                  Distribute 14 essential goods at subsidised rate through public distribution system.

Tripura Budget: Reflection of an Alternative Approach

ON February 20, Bhanulal Saha, the Finance Minister of the Tripura Left Front government, presented the budget proposals for 2017-18 in the Legislative Assembly. The budget, having no new tax proposal, puts priority on education, health care, agriculture, rural development and social welfare to usher in all-round development of the state, especially laying emphasis on the well-being of all sections of working and middle class people.  

CITU Conference Calls for Resisting Anti-people Policies of Centre & Establishing Left front Govt for the Eighth Term

THE first session of the 14th Tripura state conference of the CITU at Ambassa was inaugurated by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and chief minister Manik Sarkar. Immediately after the inaugural address, general secretary Sankar Prasad Datta presented the draft political organisational report before the delegates.

Tripura has no Case of Farmer Suicide

TRIPURA chief minister and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Manik Sarkar was invited by Hampi Kannada University - the top-ranking university of Karnataka to deliver a lecture on “Political Economy of Tripura” on January 16. Addressing the faculty and students of the university, Manik Sarkar described the condition of Tripura before Left Front came to power and highlighted its achievements of second highest literacy rate, lowest difference in male-female literacy and zero farmer suicides.

TRIPURA: Left Front Sweeps Panchayat By-poll Elections

THE Left Front in Tripura has achieved a sweeping victory in the by-elections held for the vacant seats in the three tier panchayat held on December 21. 83 percent of the voters cast their vote in a peaceful manner. Of the total 47 seats, Left Front won unopposed in three seats in gram panchayat. Votes were taken for one seat of zila parishad, two seats of panchayat samiti and 41 seats of gram panchayat.

Tripura AIKS State Conference Held

THE 20th Tripura state conference of AIKS started with a huge mass meeting at Bishramganj mini stadium. It was addressed by chief minister Manik Sarkar, AIKS general secretary Hannan Mollah, AIKS state secretary Narayan Kar and vice president of the state committee Narayan Rupini who was the president of the meeting.  Before the mass meeting Hannan Mollah hoisted the flag of the organisation. The flag and the torch were brought from Golaghati where tribal and non-tribal peasants were killed in police firing in 1949.

Perfidious Drive of BJP in Tripura

ON October 16, the people of Tripura took to the streets roaring against the heinous attempts of some BJP miscreants to raid the chief minister’s residence in Agartala on the previous day. The pretext it manufactured was the so-called attack on its state president Biplab Deb. This incident was tutored by him to garner political mileage in the state.
