Land Rights Day in Tamilnadu

THOUSANDS of farmers and workers observed the Bhagat Singh Martyrdom day on March 23 as Land Rights Day in Tamilnadu. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) held massive demonstrations in main city centres.

As part of the national call against the Land Acquisition Bill, CITU led the protest in Chennai. CPI(M) state secretary G Ramakrishnan, CITU state general secretary G Sugumaran and AIDWA vice president U Vasuki and other leaders addressed the protest.

TAMIL NADU: The Monsters and the Perseus

KARL Marx said of his fellow Germans in Modern Europe: “Perseus wore a magic cap so that the monsters he hunted down might not see him. We draw the magic cap down over our eyes and ears as a make-believe that there are no monsters.”

In Modi's India, the monsters and their tools for destroying free speech and expression are well-known. Here in Tamil Nadu, the monsters hunted down an eminent writer. The Left forces, the CPI (M), the CPI and Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association (TPWAA) protested against this attack.

Left Parties Campaign in Tamil Nadu

AS part of the nationwide campaign of the Left parties against the communal and anti-people policies of the NDA government, five Left parties in Tamil Nadu have started a campaign programme on December 8.
CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, RSP and SUCI(Communist) are jointly organising the campaign. The campaign will conclude on December 14.
In Chennai, G Ramakrishnan, D Pandian, S Balasundaram and Rangasamy, the leaders of the respective Left parties led the launching of the campaign that began with a demonstration.

TAMIL NADU: 75 Years of the Historic Entry Into Madurai Meenakshi Temple

IT was July 8, 1939.

The Dalits and Nadars, the most suppressed communities in Madras Presidency of British India, successfully entered the famous Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple in Madurai and created a history in the struggle against untouchability in the country.

July 8, 2014, marked the 75th anniversary of this feat, often hailed as a revolutionary event in the annals of modern Hinduism and Indian politics.

Put Western Ghats Report on Hold: CPI(M)

THE Tamilnadu state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the centre to put on hold the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel report by K Kasturirangan, and review it after wider discussions to prevent the possible displacement of lakhs of tribal population.

Talking to reporters on the resolutions adopted by the three-day long meeting of the state committee, CPI(M) state secretary G Ramakrishnan said protection of ecology should not be done at the cost of the livelihood of tribal people.

CPI(M), TNUEF Take Up Cudgels for Dalits

A RUMOUR was spread that a dalit boy teased a caste Hindu girl. Without waiting for anything, more than 100 people barged into the dalit area and torched six houses and damaged more than fifty houses. This is not an odd incident that can be brushed aside as some eve-teasing and reaction case. In Dindigul district, Nilakottai taluk, there are two villages called Nadupatti and Kariyampatti. Dalits live in Nadupatti and the caste Hindus live in Kariyampatti. On November 25, a rumour was spread that a boy from Nadupatti had teased a girl from Kariyampatti.

For a Vaccine to Protect from Predatory Drug MNCs

HELD in Chennai recently, a national convention called for a countrywide people’s movement to make the government of India (GoI) commit to producing life saving and essential drugs and vaccines instead of allowing the private sector to exploit the health conditions of the poor people. It also urged the GoI to allocate five per cent of the GDP for the health sector.
