Amit Sengupta

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on November 29

DR Amit Sengupta, a leading figure in the people’s science and public health movements, died in tragic circumstances in Goa on November 28.  Amit Sengupta was the former general secretary of the All India People’s Science Network and convenor of the Jan Swastya Abhiyan (People’s Health Movement).

CPI(M) Tamil Nadu pays rich tributes to the departed senior leader of the Party

COMRADE G Veeraiyan, a senior leader of CPI(M) in Tamil Nadu and a leading light of the peasant movement in the state for the last 60 years breathed his last in the early hours on November 18 at Sithadi village near Kudavasal of Thiruvarur district after a brief illness. He was 86.

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on August 8

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its profound grief at the death of a veteran of the Dravidian movement, DMK President and a stalwart of Tamil Nadu politics, M Karunanidhi. He was chief minister of Tamil Nadu five times. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly thirteen times without losing a single one.

Ashok Mitra: Moments and Memories

IT was a memorial meeting with a difference. In fact, it was a celebration of the extra-ordinary rich life of a multi-faceted personality, Leftist thinker, and finance minister in the Left Front goverment of West Bengal, columnist, author, academician, planner, and bureaucrat – all rolled into one. The meeting took place at the Constitution Club, New Delhi on May 26.

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) mourns the passing away of Comrade Jakka Venkaiah, veteran leader of the Party in Andhra Pradesh and a former member of the Central Committee.

Jakka Venkaiah played a key role in building the Communist Party in Nellore district. He began the agricultural workers organisation and led many struggles.

ASHOK Mitra who passed away on May 1, 2018, was the doyen among Left intellectuals in the country, held in the highest esteem by one and all for his absolute integrity, his outstanding intellect and his commitment to the cause of the working people.

COMRADE MOHD AMIN

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on February 12, 2018.

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) dips its banner in salute to veteran communist and trade union leader Comrade Mohd. Amin. Comrade Mohd. Amin died this afternoon. He was ninety years old.

 Mohd. Amin was born in Kolkata to poor parents who had migrated from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Lack of formal education and poverty led Amin to start work at the young age of 14 in a jute mill.

Com Avtar Sadiq Passes Away

VETERAN leader of the Indian Workers’ Association (Great Britain) and poet, Com Avtar Singh Sadiq, passed away at his home in Leicester on January 28. He was 77. Avtar Sadiq, one of the most popular faces of the Indian Marxists in the UK, was elected as the national general secretary of the IWA at its Golden Jubilee in 1988 and then as the national president from 1993 to 2004. He was also the secretary of the Association of Indian Communists from 1995 to 2012.
