State-Level Study Class for Students

A Four day state-level study class was successfully organised by the SFI Maharashtra state committee at CITU Bhavan, Nashik last month. 194 delegates from 15 districts, among whom 42 were girls, attended the class.
The class was inaugurated by the CITU state general secretary Dr D L Karad by paying homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. After the inauguration he took a session on “Today’s Student, Tomorrow’s Worker”. In the second session of the day, Prof Milind Wagh took a session on “Commercialisation of Education”. This session was followed by cultural activities.

Massive Rally in Mumbai Denounces Demolition of Ambedkar Bhavan

JULY 19 saw a massive rally of tens of thousands of people in Mumbai led jointly by Ambedkarite and Left parties and groups. It marched a distance of over 7 kilometres in drenching rain from Jijamata Udyan at Byculla to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Terminus (CST) and culminated in a huge public meeting that entirely blocked the massive square between CST and Azad Maidan for over two hours, throwing all traffic in South Mumbai haywire.

BJP’s Claim of Corruption-free Govt Falls Flat in Maharashtra

MAHARASHTRA Revenue and Agriculture Minister Eknath Khadse, the number two in the BJP-led state government, addressed a press conference at the BJP office in Mumbai on June 4 to announce his resignation. Putting up a brave face, he said he had resigned from the state government to uphold high moral values of BJP, although the charges of corruption levelled against him were “baseless” and those pointing fingers at him had not produced any evidence.

CPI(M) Wins over 100 Gram Panchayats In Nashik and Thane-Palghar Districts

IN elections held last month to a limited number of gram panchayats (GPs) whose five-year term of office were to mature in the month of June 2016, the CPI(M) won over 100 gram panchayats in its two main adivasi bastions of Nashik and Thane-Palghar districts with a clear majority. It also won four GPs in Nanded district in the two tehsils of Kinwat and Mahur, and one GP in the Taloda tehsil of Nandurbar district.

Kisan Sabha's One Lakh-Strong Rally & Sit-In Satyagraha in Nashik Wrests Major Demands from CM!

THE historic one lakh-strong state-wide rally on March 29, 2016 and the unprecedented day and night sit-in satyagraha on March 29-30 in the heart of Nashik city, squarely placed the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha (AIKS) for the first time at the centre stage of the peasant movement in Maharashtra. The four main issues on which the Kisan Sabha launched this struggle were peasant loan waiver, remunerative prices, drought relief and land rights. CPI(M) Condemns Pseudo-Patriotic Action By Maharashtra State Assembly

THE CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee has strongly condemned the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP members of the Maharashtra assembly for their acts of intimidation against Waris Pathan, MLA, in the assembly and the illegal resolution to suspend him from the assembly for the current session. Although the CPI(M) is totally opposed to the communal ideology and politics of Waris Pathan's party (AIMIM) we are of the opinion that the action of suspension against Waris Pathan in the assembly had no justification.

MAHARASHTRA: Enthusiastic SFI State Convention in Jalna

THE SFI held its Maharashtra state convention at Jalna on December 30, 2015 – the 45th foundation anniversary of the SFI. There were 174 delegates from 10 districts of Maharashtra who represented a membership till then of 50,454, which will increase further till the all India conference. The convention started with an impressive student rally that gave slogans saluting Comrade Anna Bhau Sathe - a great cultural activist and writer who was one of the pillars of the cultural movement during the Samyukta Maharashtra struggle.

MAHARASHTRA: One Lakh Court Arrest on Burning Issues at Joint CITU-AIKS-AIAWU Call

ON January 19, 2016, over one lakh workers, peasants and agricultural labourers courted arrest at 73 district and tehsil centres in 28 districts of Maharashtra, in response to the joint call given by the CITU, AIKS and AIAWU at a state-level convention at Parbhani on October 31, 2015 (See report in People’s Democracy/Loklahar, November 16-22, 2015).
